Wonderful – Comic Book Artists

We put a shout out on Twitter for independent comic book artists to send us their comic book front covers to feature in Wonderful! The scene takes place outside a comic book shop, with the front covers appearing in the shop window. As independent filmmakers, we always wanted to use indie artists to help showcase new artwork!

The comics were displayed in a comic book shop window, in a scene where Donald realises he must become the much loved Mr Wonderful one last time!comic-book1comic-books2

Comic Book Artists – We Want You!

Wonderful, Berry Productions, Hull, UK, David Aston, Joseph Monahan, Callum Smith, Ben Wade, Joanne Gallagher, Richie Donaldson, Neil Watling

We have received a great amount of comics for our film and have now received the amount we need! Thanks to all those who sent one in!

Calling all comic book artists out there… want to see your comic book appear in ‘Wonderful’, our newest film?

We’re in the final stages of production of our new film ‘Wonderful’, all about an old man who believes he was once a superhero. Obviously we have a lot of connections to superheroes and comic books throughout the film. In one of our last scenes to shoot, our main character is looking at comic books in a comic book shop.

As we’re an independent filmmaking team, and support all forms of independent art, we wanted to help promote some indie artists out there and have your comic books on the shelves instead of the usual Superman, Batman, Spiderman etc.

So if you’ve got a comic book front cover that you’ve created – we want it! Here’s some things to remember:

  • It’s only a short scene so your comic book won’t be on screen for long – but still it’ll be fun to see!
  • We can’t accept any work that has offensive images/wording
  • Your comic book doesn’t have to be about superheroes. Any genre, any style of artwork will be great!
  • We WILL credit you and your comic book/series in the end credits
  • We WILL share links to your artwork on our social media sites and here on our website (if you want us to!)
  • We WILL make sure you get to see the final film (not sure when/how just yet!)
  • We WILL think you are awesome!

If you’d like to see your comic book front cover in our scene, please drop me an email to: berryproductionsuk@gmail.com and attach a high res copy of your comic book front cover. Please also provide your name, your comic book/series title and a link to more of your work or your facebook page/twitter feed etc. I’ll respond as soon as possible! Or if you’d like some more info, do get in touch as well!

Thanks – we look forward to seeing your work!

The Field on DVD – available now!

Front CoverBack CoverWe recently completed our 45 minute, zero budget film ‘The Field’, made in and around our home city of Hull and with a cast and crew from the area too! We’re happy to announce that the DVD’s are now available for you to relive the challenge (if you’ve already seen it) or dare to do the challenge (if you haven’t seen it)!

The Field DVD

……………………………………………..

It took us a year to complete ‘The Field’ from the first day of filming and, with only a handful of people in our crew, it was quite a challenge! The entire film was financed from our own pockets (in other words… not much at all) and had a LOT of  help from local businesses, friends and family members – all of which we are incredibly grateful for!

We’ve packed the DVD’s full of extra features and a couple of our other recent short films! We’ve been looking forward to getting the DVD’s completed so we can get the film we all worked so hard on seen by all of you lovely people!

If you would like to buy a copy of ‘The Field’  please use the ‘Buy Now’ button below. The DVD’s cost £5.00 each (plus postage and packaging) and every penny will go towards funding our next film.  If you live near us in Hull and would rather collect your DVD, you can use the contact form below and we will get back to you ASAP.

Dead Man Walking – Episode 2

Steve2Hi, I’m Steve, I work on sound with Berry Productions and can occasionally be found doing some acting as well! Look out for me in ‘The New Family Corporation’ (at the bottom of this post)! We’re also currently in production of a music video for my new song ‘Mama’ for Cancer UK.

Recently, I’ve  also been documenting my adventures in ‘Dead Man Walking’. Welcome to episode 2…

So, I’m sitting here a day after launch of episode 2 and the response has been incredible! I never actually expected people to watch it, and to WANT to watch it. Wow!

Filming episode 2, was a lot harder than the first one, because there was a bit more organisation involved. Getting my mates Nick and Chris in on the idea was great because I think it added a whole new dimension to the first 5 mins.

Filming the night vision stuff was great fun, albeit scary. The only problem I faced in the editing suite, was that it’s a nigh-on obsolete format (Mini-DV) camera. Although it was worth the nut ache. I was really pleased with the footage.

I later found out, there is a black panther on the loose out there, so that clearly makes me a double-hard ba***rd.

This adventure was a true test of what I can achieve. I really found this one hard, both mentally and physically. In the dark, in the middle of nowhere, on your own.. It’s a hard place to be, and I nearly gave up a few times. If it wasn’t through the support of a very good group of friends, I wouldn’t be here typing this. Episode 2 would not exist.

Physically this challenge drained me, I was carrying a lot of water on my back, and that didn’t agree too well my my legs. I ended up spraining a tendon in my foot and I’ve been limping around like a wounded donkey for about 5 days now. I’m on the mend though, so that’s awesome.

All in all, I think I can say, I’ve found something I really enjoy. From adventuring, to editing, to release. It’s really a lot of fun.

Keeps me out of the pub.

Thanks again for your time, time is precious.

Dead Man Walking…

Steve DMWHi. I’m Steve, from Dead Man Walking. I’m the accidental documentary maker. With Berry Productions I’m often found acting or working on post-production sound.

Dead Man was stumbled upon, on an app – Snapchat. I started filming just to let everyone know where I was going, how I was doing. When I got back off that adventure, I sat and watched it back and thought ‘Hey, that’s pretty cool’. So I went out and got myself a cheap digital camera.

With that, Dead Man Walking was born, completely by accident.

The first episode was really fun to film and edit. It really got my creative juices flowing as I tried to work out a ‘format’ for the show, how it should look/feel etc.. I’ve always wanted to try my hand at ‘presenting’ so I just went for it!

The Hull – Hornsea challenge is really a test of endurance more than anything. The track is brutally bumpy and my bike had no suspension. The endurance part was made somewhat easier with something to take my mind off the muscle-splitting pain. The film. How should I vLog this bit? How will I edit this to make it look good? Segways – going from talking to cam, to voice-over.

I really wasn’t expecting a lot of people to take to it, as episode 1 falls in at just under 20 minutes long. People these days have very short attention spans, (including me) and I thought that’s where it’d fall.

Thankfully the response has been great! A lot of people seem to really dig it, which is amazing! Episode 2 is very nearly ready and I can’t wait to show you it.

Oh and by the way, I’m not trying to be Bear Grylls, he drinks his own wee and I’m not down with that.

Thanks very much for watching/reading this.

Steve x

The New Family Corporation – new short film

Welcome to the New Family Corporation – here for all your new family needs”

Steve Fettis, Berry ProductionsYes, they are there for all your new family needs. The New Family Corporation, founded by the powerful Mr. Wisemore. It is a company shrouded in mystery, that claims to be helping the world, but, as one poor guy is soon to find out, all may not be exactly as it seems…

The New Family Corporation’ is our new, 3 minute, film that has been made for the Reed Short David Aston, Berry ProductionsFilm Competition 2014. The competition runs every year over Christmas and always has a theme to follow. This year the theme was ‘family business’. So we came up with the concept of a company that actually makes new family members for their customers – be it parent, sibling, spouse or child, they custom design people to fit with their customers specifications!

Joanne Gallagher, Berry ProductionsKev Thomspon, Konnie Thompson, Berry ProductionsThree variations of the script were written in order to fit into the 3 minute deadline. For the cast we have brought back all the great people we have worked with in the past, plus a few new faces to the world of the Berry. Steve Fettis helped us with the audio levels for the film and the rest was created by just the two of us (Joseph Monahan and Callum Smith) so a lot of hard work has been put into it!

Katy D'Arcy, Berry ProductionsHolly Gallagher, Berry ProductionsWe made it into the top 50 films in the competition out of over 500 entries so we did really well! Although we didn’t make it into the top 12, we’re still really chuffed and think we’ve got and excellent little film! Please everyone, watch, share and like the film to help it get some traction online and keep on supporting independent film!

Reed Short Film Competition…

It’s November, it’s getting colder and colder with more chances of rain, snow and sleet. Of course this means that we are about to shoot a new film! Hooray! The old Berry curse of filming in the cold strikes again! Not our fault this time though, as we are making a short film for the Reed Short Film Competition, which is currently open and closes on 22nd January, 2014. What is Reed Short Film you may ask? It’s an annual competition by Reed Recruitment Agency to make a 3 minute film based on a theme. This years theme is ‘Family Business’. Two years ago we made ‘The Wife and I…‘ for the competition and made it into the top 30 out of over 500 entrants. So this year we are hoping to even better!

We have our screenplay written and the majority of locations sorted. I’m not going to tell you the story – don’t want to spoil it – but I can tell you the cast involved. We’ve been working with some amazing actors and actresses in the last few years, all from Hull and surrounding areas, and wanted to get as many of these brilliant people involved and all have signed up for the film!

New FamilyNew Family 3New Family 4 New Family 1 New Family 2

The short film was written by myself (Joseph Monahan) and will be directed by me and Callum Smith. Callum will also work on the musical score to the film.

It’s a great story that we have come up with – if you’re a fan of the Black Mirror series by Charlie Brooker then you might just like this one!

We’re currently sourcing all of our locations and props etc, ready to begin filming in the next couple of weeks and we’re all looking forward to getting our teeth into it!

Below is the film we made for the competition 2 years ago. It was called ‘The Wife and I…’ and the theme was ‘The Boss’. We have come a long way since making this short so, if you like ‘The Wife and I…’, get ready for something bigger and better!

Reed Short Film Competition… we’re coming for you!

‘The Field’ – the Lego addition

Over the years there have been quite a few franchises made into Lego toys. Star Wars, Batman, and Pirates of the Caribbean to name a few. There have also been some funny ‘made-up’ Lego toys such as the brilliant Breaking Bad collection!

So I thought, what if we remade ‘The Field’ out of Lego? Enough said. Enjoy!
